We at MAST got to interview a very busy (and cute) MASTDOG. His owner is our very own Volunteer Coordinator. He is a rescue who has become one of the best therapy dogs around with his loving, energetic spirit.

What breed are you?
-Your guess is as good as mine, but my mom and dad call me a hound dog

How old are you?
-6 years old and going

How long have you been a therapy dog?
-One year

What made you want to become a therapy dog?
-I love to be pet and see people, I also love hugs and kisses

How long did it take you to become certified?
-My mom worked with me for 3 years, she was waiting for my “puppy” side to calm down.

What is your favorite part about being a therapy dog?
-I love getting to see my friends (dogs and people) every week and I love the ear and butt scratches

What is the biggest surprise you’ve had while being a therapy dog?
-I got prime rib once at a luncheon!

What is your favorite toy?
-I prefer my bed over toys

What is your favorite treat?
-Bananas and peanut butter

What is your favorite spot to be pet?
-My butt and ears!

Do you have any favorite music?
-I love me some country (I have got my country roots!) Willie Nelson is my favorite, especially the song “On the road again”

What does a therapy dog do, in your own words?
-Best Job Ever! I get to walk around and get pet by everyone! When I turn, they all pat my butt!

What type of dog makes a good candidate for therapy dog work?
-Nice ones that want to be my new best friend (just don’t tell Mason and Dandy)

What kind of training should a therapy dog yet?
-Training in a class is best. I had to learn to listen to my mom even though all my friends were around! My MAST Friends offer a great training, I get to go visit everyone once and awhile with my friend Mason!

How much time do you spend being a therapy dog each month?
-As much as I want!

What is one suggestion you would to make to someone considering becoming a therapy dog team?
-It’s not as easy as it looks, it can interfere with nap time!

What can a therapy dog teach us about being good citizens?
-Love, No Judgment, Patience, Good Listening

What do you do in your time off?
– I enjoy road trips and camping—it’s fun to find a new place to sleep and hike! When I am home, I like sleeping outside in the sun (unless it is raining then I enjoy sleeping under the covers.)
